MMA and me; day 132/133

So I slacked and forgot to blog about last Wednesday and Thursday. So I'm knocking them out tonight before I blog about what we did today.
Wednesday:
Kickboxing was all about setting up the leg kick. After a lot of jumping to get warmed up, we worked a jab, body straight, hook combo that set up the 10, and then a lead straight, hook into the 10. When throwing the body 2, don't throw it down, instead, lower your level by sitting down and throwing it straight, and then throwing the hook as you raise back up. We then threw the same combos at our partner, but this time around they wouldn't know what we were throwing, and they would have to check the 10. We finished with 3 minutes of sit ups, and it was time for grappling.

We worked four different sweeps in jiu jitsu, all from half guard. First with a same side under hook, you shrimp towards your opponent, backing your butt towards them, and then dive your post arm under their legs, and roll backwards as you pull their lat with your under hook. Second, if they pummel to reclaim the under hook, secure an over hook, or whizzer, and with your post arm grab the back of their near side tricep, left up with your whizzer, pull their near side tricep towards you, and sweep their legs out from under them, landing in side control. Third, if they manage to get double under hooks, secure a second whizzer, and beginning with your hips, roll them towards the side of their leg you have in half guard. Lastly, if you manage to reclaim double under hooks, reclaim full butterfly guard, get your chin under theirs, straighten your legs out, and then simply turn them to either side. Don't just go one way though, feint one way and then quickly go the other way. I'm not going to lie, I am a little fuzzy on these details, so I'm going to beg Vern for forgiveness and hope he'll go over them with me again. Note to self, DO THE BLOGGING THE NEXT DAMN DAY! Okay, on to Thursday.

Thursday:
Boxing was more of the same from Tuesday, working the same set. I was left with no partner, so I worked with coach, and after the first few rounds, we had worked through the whole combo, and started to hit some free flow combos. I'm getting better, but it's still hard. I never thought I'd like boxing this much, but I freaking love it and want more and more and more! Check out day 131 for a detailed account of the combos we covered.

In jiu jitsu we worked stretching to start, and hung out on our shoulders for five minutes. We went through our shoulder rolls, did our straight across shoulder rolls, and then did those around our partner while never losing eye contact with them. We then worked on guard passing drills that involved placing both hands on opposite sides of our partner while using our head as a balance point and kicking up with our legs to briefly hover over them, and then land in as an advantageous position as possible. Again, slacking has caused me to forget the more salient details, so I will beg for forgiveness from Aric, and promise to be more attentive to class and m y blog in the future. Anyways, it was a great week, and I'll be back in the morning recounting last nights classes!
