MMA and me; day 136

We began the day with jumping rope for ten minutes, and then moved onto medicine ball drills. First, we walked around the gym with them held over our heads for two minutes, rested for 30 seconds, and repeated two more times. Next we did chest presses with the medicine balls from our backs for two minutes, and then rested for 30 seconds, and did it one more time. We strapped on our boxing gloves and started working on our footwork. We did a round of shadowing our opponents movements and hitting a jab when they called for one, for one round each. For the next round, we did the same, except this time we threw a step jab, putting a little more oomph on it, and timing the jab with a step in, and pulling back the foot when the punch was retracted. We then did a round where our partner would randomly call for either of the jabs for a round. Next, we worked on angling off to the right and pumping the jab twice for a round. This was kinda tough, and I had a tough time getting the timing right on this one. Lastly, we combined all three drills, responding to what our partner called out. We finished with two minutes of sit ups, and it was jiu jitsu time.

We started off with a guard reclaim from being on the bottom in side control. With your head side arm, get your forearm on their neck, and your hand over their shoulder. Bridge and drop your elbow of their leg side to their hip, while simultaneously turning to your side and shrimping back. Extend your bottom leg straight out, and get your top side knee on their chest. Push their chest away and bring your bottom leg through to reclaim guard. Next was a sweep to an arm triangle from the same position. From the bottom, wrap your arm on their head side around their neck and grab your opposite bicep, placing your other hand over their head to lock in the grip. Bridge and turn over your shoulder towards their knee near your head on a diagonal, making sure to kick your legs free, and you've landed in an arm triangle. Switch your hands to an S grip, and turn your head towards theirs to tighten the hold until they tap. Lastly, we worked on an arm triangle from within their guard. As your opponent is posting up on you, pummel in and knock their left arm out and away from their body, while C blocking their right arm just past your head. With your left arm, bring their head in close, trapping their left arm against their neck, and grabbing your right bicep, as your right hand swims over their head. From here you can go for either the choke, where you use your guard to pull their hips away as you squeeze your arms, or you can attempt to sweep them and finish the choke from the top. Thanks Coach Vern for a great day of classes!
