In boxing yesterday we worked on our burst drills, and countering off of blocking body shots. We started off with a jab, straight, catch body 3, rear uppercut, straight, hook, straight, high catch counter, turn left, jab jab. Next was the same beginning, but blocked a body 4, countered with a lead uppercut, hook, straight, then the high catch counter, into the left turn and double jab. Next was blocking the body 4, then the body 3, countering with a rear uppercut, lead uppercut, hook straight, into the high catch counter, left turn and double jab. Lastly, we worked more on the Cuban slide we worked on last week. Started off with a jab straight, roll, Cuban slide, body hook, overhand right. Broken down, they look like this
1) 1-2-catch body 3-6-2-3-2-high catch counter-left turn-1-1
2) 1-2-catch body 4-5-3-2-high catch counter-left turn-1-1
3) 1-2-catch body 4-catch body 3-6-5-3-2-high catch counter-left turn-1-1
4) 1-2-roll-Cuban slide-body 3-overhand 2
The keys to blocking the body shots are to not lean too far, or you'll have to over correct and most likely get tagged. Instead, sit down in your stance, and shift your weight to intercept the punch, which will in turn set up the uppercuts that begin the counters. We finished with five minute rounds of boxer sit ups, and then it was grappling.
More guard passing was on tap for jiu jitsu. We started with walking the hands up to the hips, and easing our shoulders back until they're over our hips. From there, shrug your shoulders forward, look to the ceiling, and roll your hips forward for a really strong posture that is very tough to break. From there, slide your hands up to their left knee, and press it down the front of your thigh, until you have "nailed" it to the mat, and slide your inside knee over their thigh. From there, walk your outside knee around to their head, and slide to side control. In the next pass, we slid the outside knee over the pushed down leg, cradled their head with our right arm, and then using a windshield wiper motion, switched legs that were pinning their leg to the mat. From there, slip your leg free, and slide to low judo, followed by side control. Next was the flat tire *shudder* If your opponent shrimps away when you push their knee down, slide your knee over their shin, reach back and grab the blade of their foot that is trapped under your leg, and then extend your hip flexors as you sit up and pull their foot for a flat tire submission. It is extremely painful, and if they try to fight it and escape, you end up in positions to reclaim side control, hit a knee bar, or any number of advantageous positions. Lastly, we worked the lunge pass. From the shrugged position, keep your head low and place your left knee in the butt crack of your opponent, while lunging your right leg straight out behind you. In one smooth motion, posture up and turn as far to the right and up as you can. This should break their guard, letting you push their left leg to that mat, sliding your right knee over the thigh, and then windshield wiper your left leg over to replace it, then slide into side control.
