MMA and me; day 139

Wow, am I a space cadet or what? Completely forgot to cover Thursday's classes on Friday, and yesterday was so crazy for me, that hear we are on Sunday, and well, better late than never? Boxing was a blast, and we worked some new stuff that I've never done before. We started off with a jab, straight, roll step back, counter. The step back is a new bit of defense that allows you to get away from someone who is pressuring you, and counter back. Next was a jab, straight, slip step back, which felt a little more comfortable than the roll step back, but still a little odd. Lastly was something completely different. Jab, straight, roll, step around, uppercut overhand right. The roll then step around feels so awkward, and I'm still having issues with it. After the roll, you bring your lead foot to your rear foot and then step your rear foot out to the side, bringing yourself 90 degrees off to the side of your opponent. From there, you've set yourself up for the uppercut, which leads to the overhand right. At the end, we put it all together, and it looked like this:
1-2-roll step back-2-3-2-slip step back-2-3-2-roll step around-5-2. A tough couple of concepts, but the more I work on them, the more I know I will be able to get it right. We finished with 15 minutes of bag burnouts, and then it was grappling time.

We worked more guard passes in jiu jitsu. First, the inside knee pass, where you posture up, slide your hands up to their hips with your elbows locked, and extend your hip flexors. Slide your hands up onto one of their knees, and shove it straight down your thigh. Slide your outside knee inside your hands, and pressure down on their thigh with your shin. From there, extend your other leg behind you, cradle their head with your top side arm, switch to side control, and get under over control on their bottom side leg with your other arm. Next was the hook pass. With arms posted on their hips, get one knee in their behind, and turn as far as you can away from that side. When their guard pops open, reach back, keeping the near arm posted and locked on their stomach to defend the triangle, and reach under their outside ankle, sliding your elbow pit to their knee pit. In one fluid motion, swing your arm around their head, and slap your hand to the floor, swim your arm out to cradle their head, get the under over on their legs with your other arm, and get your knees behind their head and body. Lastly, With both arms posted on their stomach, get your knee in their behind again, and this time, lunge the other leg way out behind you until their guard opens. This should open a little space for you to swim both arms in under their legs, and allow you to posture up with their legs over their head, and your belly button on their behind. Give them the matador and make it look like you're going one way, and then swing their legs the other way, maintaining pressure on their torso with your chest, and landing in low judo. Get under over control on their legs, cradle their head, and switch to side control. Great day of guard passes, which I know I need to work on, but will keep on improving!
